Our Work: Using an estimated population of 33 Million Afghanistan is among the least reached countries in the world, with approximately two hundredths of one percent identifying as Christian. The innovative work of Afghan House Church Network (AHCN) places its staff and associates at the heart of the emerging Afghan leaders.
1. Leadership Development: Training of Afghan leaders on the biblical meta-narrative (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration) and the primary Christian doctrines. This group includes the leaders of seven emerging movements across the country. Biblical and theological formation, vision-casting, and encouragement is a primary strategy in fueling movements in the leaders’ respective areas. These intensive trainings also involve practical elements like leading Bible study groups and one-on-one discipleship using Bible Discovery and inductive methods.
2. Member Care: AHCN is facilitating shelter for believers who need protection during acute periods of time. Afghanistan is the third most persecuted country for Christians in the world. We are supporting, counseling, and relocating believers under persecution.
3. Translation Work: Afghanistan is a multi-lingual and multi-ethnic country with approximately thirty languages and dialects and fifty people groups, all of them unreached. AHCN has translators who translated 9 books and 150 articles in 2018-2020. AHCN is seeking to continue development of a library of key edificatory resources for use across the church network.
4. Audio Work: Estimates suggest 60% of males and 85% of females are illiterate in Afghanistan. AHCN has developed a series of Bible stories focusing on From Creation to Christ, to help illiterate people have access to the Bible. These resources are currently in Dari and Pashto, and development of these materials into Turkman, Aimaq and Uzbeki and Hazargi under work. AHCN has also produced The Prophet’s Story in 9 video clips, all in Hazaragi, Aimaq, Turkmen, and Uzbek. In high persecution contexts, audio materials are also valuable for literate people as such resources are more easily concealed than hard copy resources. We are also working to produce an audio version of all the books that are translated by AHCN staff.
